Clinical Trials Network
August 9-11, 2010, Marina del Rey, California
The Center for Advancing Longitudinal Drug Abuse Research (CALDAR; Yih-Ing Hser, Ph.D., PI and Center Director), funded by NIDA (P30 DA016383), hosted its third Summer Institute at the Marriott in Marina del Rey. The target audience was advanced students, junior investigators, experienced researchers, and substance abuse treatment providers interested in expanding their knowledge base and/or skills in conducting longitudinal research and evidence-based approaches to treatment. The event featured presentations by renowned researchers, policymakers, and clinicians who highlighted current findings and discussed future directions in longitudinal research, addiction treatment, and recovery. The first day focused on longitudinal perspectives as a way to understand recovery. The second and third days provided in-depth instruction on longitudinal statistical and research methods. New this year to the Summer Institute was the concurrent Dissemination Conference, co-hosted by NIDA’s Clinical Trials Network (CTN). The CTN sessions highlighted evidence-based approaches to care and were a natural complement to CALDAR’s efforts to increase understanding of recovery to improve care.
Speakers included: Deni Carise, H. Westley Clark, Wilson Compton, Michael Cunningham, Thomas Freese, Suzette Glasner-Edwards, Donald Hedeker, Yih-Ing Hser, Walter Ling, John (Jack) McArdle, A. Thomas McLellan, Larissa Mooney, Rudolf Moos, Jennifer Sharpe Potter, Richard Rawson, Andrew Saxon, Steven Shoptaw, Betty Tai, Olga Tuller, Constance Weisner, Robert Weiss, Katie Witkiewitz
