   Summer Institute
   on Longitudinal Research
   August 14-16, 2006

The Center for Advancing Longitudinal Drug Abuse Research (CALDAR; Yih-Ing Hser, Ph.D., Center Director), funded by NIDA (P30 DA016383), hosted its first Summer Institute at UCLA on August 14-16, 2006.  The target audience for the three-day event was advanced students, junior investigators, and experienced researchers interested in expanding their skills in longitudinal research.  The Institute was designed to enhance participants' knowledge of longitudinal research methodologies and statistical approaches, provide opportunities for scientific collaboration, and highlight the relevance and application of statistical techniques to a variety of research areas.  The event featured: plenary sessions with renowned investigators in the areas of longitudinal analysis, drug abuse, mental health, and health services research; intensive seminars on longitudinal research methods; and a poster session.

Invited speakers included Peter Bentler, Ricky Bluthenthal, Linda Collins, Wilson Compton, Michael Dennis, Donald Hedeker, Stephanie Lanza, A. Thomas McLellan, Rudolf Moos, Bengt Muthén, Daniel Nagin, and Constance Weisner.

August 14 - Conference

The theme for the conference was "Current Findings and Future Directions in Longitudinal Research" and focused on the areas of drug and alcohol abuse, HIV, mental health, and criminal justice.
