The UCLA Center for Advancing Longitudinal Drug Abuse Research (CALDAR), in collaboration with the Asian & Pacific Islander Addiction Science Network, held the first meeting of Conference Series to Promote Global Health, sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The conference theme was prevention and treatment of substance abuse and HIV, focusing on Asian countries and the Pacific Islands. Conference attendees included more than 200 researchers, clinicians, treatment providers, and policy makers from around the globe.
The knowledge and information disseminated in the conference will promote innovative research and international collaboration to support public health and the development of a comprehensive understanding of drug and alcohol use and its interaction with HIV, drug treatment, mental health, criminal justice, healthcare, and other service systems in regions around the world. Planning for the second event in the Conference Series to Promote Global Health is underway, and will be held in 2015.
